Nutritionist Educator – ESNY

The Nutritionist Educator for the Eat Smart New York Regional Grant Funded Program will work under the programmatic supervision of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County (CCEOC) Eat Smart New York (ESNY) Project Manager to provide strategic and innovative planning, implementing, coordination and evaluation of public education to improve healthy food and lifestyle choices among low-income families and individuals encompassing all age groups throughout Dutchess County. As part of the Federal SNAP-Ed Regional Program, and as the only SNAP-Ed nutrition educator for Dutchess County, this position will work closely with program leads in CCE Orange, and is an integral player in program design and development, assessment, evaluation, and management. This position will represent the association and ESNY to the public, community leaders, government officials, and Cornell University. This person will work as a team member in addressing local, regional and statewide programming priorities and operate as a multi-association team member in the above areas of specialization. This position receives programmatic supervision by the SNAP-Ed Project Manager based in Orange County.

We are looking for a candidate with very strong interpersonal and communication skills and a proven ability to work with diverse audiences in group and one-on-one settings. The incumbent will need to be able to work effectively with staff, clientele, committees, community and funding partners. Bi-lingual in Spanish a plus.

Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Health Education, or Public Health required along with two years of relevant work experience.

Annual Salary: $46,830 along with benefit package.

Family & Consumer Resource Educator

The Family and Consumer Resource Educator (RE) provides specialized program development, delivery and community education to youth, adults and seniors throughout Dutchess County in subject areas relative to the Family and Consumer Education (FCE) Issue area. As needed this position may also provide assistance to support regionalized program opportunities in one or more neighboring counties in the Hudson Valley within FCE. The RE will work with the FCE Program Leader, Program Committee, Advisories and program staff to establish and maintain programming in assigned areas. This will include providing input and content for Plans of Work, project development and grant applications, as well as the coordination of resources relative to the performance of program- and subject matter-related responsibilities. Primary focus of this position is the provision of in-depth disciplinary input for program development, evaluation, marketing, and leadership. Delivery of subject-matter educational programs to the appropriate professional, community, individual and family target audiences is also required.

This position requires a substantive knowledge base and ability to effectively collaborate in order to accomplish the desired level of performance. The FCE RE will autonomously be responsible for project development including small to medium grants, fee-based services, identification of evaluation strategies and project outcomes, and partnership development internally at Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County (CCEDC) and externally in the communities of Dutchess County. This position receives direct supervision from the Family and Consumer Education Program Leader in Dutchess County.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in health, nutrition, human services, financial management education, human ecology, parenting, consumer education, or other related area, as well as relevant work experience.
  • Ability to plan and present effective and relevant educational lessons to various audiences including but not limited to low-income audiences, youth, seniors, professional, and lay audiences.
  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences, environments and settings while maintaining cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to work independently, and also work effectively as a professional team member within the regional program.
  • Ability to carry supplies and equipment, climb stairs with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight travel.
  • Ability to meet the travel requirements of the position.
  • Proficiency in the use of modern electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, texting, Microsoft Office Programs, etc.).
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of relevant work experience preferred.
  • Ability to plan, develop, coordinate and deliver innovative formal and informal educational programs.
  • Experience working with the target low-income audiences, and/or coursework in adult and youth education, and/ or other relevant work experience with low-income audiences.
  • Ability to understand and communicate CCE’s mission.
  • Familiarity with the community in which the work will take place, and ability to utilize program resources within the community.
  • Ability to plan and organize work responsibilities according to priorities developed with immediate supervisor and regional lead staff.
  • Ability to identify, develop and support volunteer involvement.
  • Familiarity with a variety of program delivery methods to reach individuals and groups in youth and adult audiences and ability to integrate youth and adult development principles into educational activities.
  • Demonstrate initiative to pursue continuing education that will further hone skills and abilities to maximize program success.
  • Bilingual in Spanish highly preferred.

Taste of New York Market at Todd Hill
Market Store Clerk – Dutchess County

The Todd Hill historic building in the median of the Taconic State Parkway (just south of the Route 55 Exit) has been remodeled into a Taste of New York store and Farmers’ Market site. Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County is the operator with funding from New York State.

The position of Market Clerk at the Taste of NY Market at Todd Hill is to support the Store and Farmers’ Market and related activities. Primary responsibilities include assisting with receiving inventory, operation of cash register, cash controls, customer service and creating visual displays.

On a daily basis the store clerk will inspect the store for cleanliness, organization, refill supplies as needed and ensure interactive display is working properly. The clerk is expected to discuss Hudson Valley agriculture and local foods with customers to engage them in these areas, and to provide information upon request about the food and farm products sold in the market.

Essential Responsibilities/Functions include:

  • Customer service – greet, assist and serve the needs of store customers,
  • Store inspection, organization and recordkeeping,
  • Replenishment of store supplies and inventory,
  • Receive and label new inventory,
  • Assist with promotion of agri-tourism in Dutchess County via interactive-display maintenance. Set-up or reboot the display and computer connections,
  • Describe the local farms, produce and food displayed
  • Receive and log scheduled deliveries,
  • Must assist in maintaining a clean facility according to store procedures and be a team player.

Maintain, troubleshoot if necessary and call for repair as directed for:

  • Multi-line phone
  • Cash Register
  • Interactive display

Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to complete basic math in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work with the public,
  • Attention to detail,
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate a cash register,
  • Ability to use or learn to use MS Word and Excel,
  • Ability to meet the travel requirements of the position,
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:
1 year or more retail sales experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Microsoft Office proficiency,
  • Experience working in customer service and retail environments,
  • Understanding of basic marketing,
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks,
  • Knowledge of the organization, operation, philosophy and objectives of Cornell Cooperative Extension,
  • Proficiency with internet-based communications,
  • Knowledge of agriculture and agriculture practices.

This is a part-time/temporary (up to 20 hours/week) 3-month position with the possibility of an extension.
Weekend availability a must.
